Since manuls have the incredible superpower of (in addition to putting paws on tails ) connecting people all over the world, I was curious as to where other members were from!
I’m from the United States (specifically the state of New Jersey). Where is everyone else from??
Yes… it is Akiko. He is very good at hiding in the back of his enclosure where nobody can see him. But when he comes out he loves to sit on top of a rock pile and watch everyone go past. They also feed him with meat on strings that are hung from his branches so it’s very entertaining to watch him try and get his food. He is lovely.
@ennui Hello, northern neighbor! I hope you get a manual near you soon too. I’m surprised there aren’t more in Canada… I would think Canada would have an excellent climate for them!
@otocolobus Wow, no manuls! I’m so glad to hear you guys finally got one!!
We do have quite a few zoos with them here in the US, but most of them are pretty far from me unfortunately. The closest one (in Brooklyn, New York) is over an hour away and that one just reopened after being closed for over a year. Before that I had to drive four hours down to Washington DC to see some!! I should petition the governor to bring some to New Jersey.
There are a few zoos with manuls in England, but they’re not very easy to get to! I’m very jealous of the European cities that have manul zoos in them, like Berlin and Prague.
I’m really looking forward to making a trip up to Edinburgh to see Akiko!
I’ve been very surprised about which zoos have manuls, at least over here. For instance neither the Bronx Zoo nor the Philadelphia Zoo, which are the two GIANT zoos near me, have them… but the tiny little Prospect Park Zoo, which I’d never even heard of untill I started researching which zoos have them, does! It’s so strange! Personally, I think every zoo should have some manuls… to better spread the love.
