Wild manul caught on MWG's camera trap!

Hey everyone!

I just thought I’d share with you guys one of the pictures I was sent for making a partial adoption of MWG’s camera traps! You can partially adopt a camera for any direct donation over 10$, and, in return, they’ll send you a few pictures of wild manuls!

If you can help them in any way, please, go ahead! Every little bit counts! Their team is working very hard, amidst personal and professional challenges, to ensure we learn a little bit more about our wild, long distance friends. Also, go give their socials a follow!

Ah that’s so cool! I’m going to look into donating now. Do you get to know where the camera is? I think that’d be cool, knowing where “your” manuls are living!

In my case, I just contributed for a partial adoption of a camera, which means the money I sent will be used in any resources they might need now or in the future. I got a few pictures from cameras that have already been placed in the past, and they have already launched monitoring networks in Central Kazakhstan, North-Eastern Mongolia and Altai Mountains, so, all I can tell you is that this picture was most likely taken in Central Asia.

You can find more details of their camera monitoring projects on this page and also see a list of all the places they’re currently working on by checking their Projects page! There’s a lot of different things (camera traps, research papers, etc) taking place across several countries! They’re working really hard!

Yes, that’s a good project. Me and Vika personally adopted 5 cameras and started a crowdfunding campaign in Manulization Telegram channel and raised funds for 9 more camera traps.
All our cameras were installed last autumn and I hope they will help scientists to count and study manuls in Kazakhstan
Don’t hesitate to adopt your camera (even partially). Every donation matters!

A wild steppe hello from the manuls of Kazakhstan! :smiling_cat_with_heart_eyes:

:high_voltage:News from the Manul Working Group:
In May, scientists were able to check 29 camera traps installed in Central Kazakhstan — several of them adopted by you, followers of Manulization! :heart_hands:t2:
The traps captured manuls and other fluffy steppe dwellers. Hooray!! :fire:

Researchers are reporting an incredibly high level of manul activity — the cats appeared on half of the checked camera traps!
Experts link this to the peak population of pikas in 2024–2025.
Where there are pikas — there are manuls!:ok_hand:t2:

:white_small_square: Scientists plan to revisit these traps and check the remaining ones throughout the summer and autumn.

:white_small_square: Photos and videos of animals from Manulization followers’ manul-cams (+5 ours) will be uploaded to a special section on the Manulization website after sorting!
